SHS ROUND-UP: Spartan boys win big over Marshall

The Superior High School boys basketball team defeated Duluth Marshall 100-47 Monday night in Duluth.

Nine different players scored for the Spartans including five in double figures.

Mason Ackley led the way with 27 points, which included 6-of-7 shooting on 3-pointers.

Xavier Patterson was next with 13 points, followed by Joey Barker, 11; and Cam Borgh and Stephen Gee, 10 apiece.

Ackley also had six rebounds, four steals and three assists; Patterson had four assists; and Borgh had five rebounds and three assists.

The Spartans’ game Thursday at Duluth East was snowed out and will be made up on Jan. 25.

Superior will play Hinckley-Finlayson at 10 a.m. Saturday at Duluth East.

Girls hockey

The Spartans lost 4-1 to Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Monday night at the Superior Ice Arena.

Alee Milinkovich-Gray scored Superior’s goal midway through the second period with an assist from Rose Ion.

Dana Jones scored twice for CEC and Elise Lund had 18 saves.

Katrina Casper had 36 saves for Superior.

The Spartans, who played at Eveleth-Gilbert Thursday night, play at Northland Pines at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Boys hockey

The annual “Skate with the Spartans” event will take place after the SHS boys hockey game with the Hudson Raiders at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20.

The skate is open to the public and will take place immediately after the game.

Prior to the Hudson game, Superior hosts Eau Claire North at 2 p.m. Saturday, Hibbing Tuesday, and Greenway Thursday.

Boys swimming

The Spartans finished third in a three-way meet Tuesday at Mesabi East on the Iron Range.

Team Duluth finished in first place with 289 points. Mesabi East was second with 227 points and Superior finished with 124 points.

Thursday’s meet at Eau Claire was snowed out and will be made up on Tuesday.

Superior will swim in the Duluth East Invitational at 1 p.m. Saturday.
