The Solon Springs High School girls basketball team began the 2018 portion of their season with a 70-55 win Tuesday night at Butternut.

“It was a great team win, we finally played the way I knew these girls could all year,” NHS coach Brian Amys said. “We have things we need to work on and clean up but that is good as you move forward if you can pull a few things from each game that you need improvement on its much easier to keep getting better.”

The Eagles were led by Morgan Anderson with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Nikki Orozco also had a big night with 18 points and seven rebounds, followed by Heather Holderness, 13 points; Kylli Rajala, eight points; Lily Nordskog, six points; and Allison Androsky two.

“We had girls step up and play the way I knew they could,” Amys said. “They just needed to have that game to gain some confidence in their shooting and when they got the opportunities and they took advantage of it. Now we need to keep this thing rolling and see if they can continue to play at this level.”

Butternut entered Tuesday’s game with a 7-2 record.

“Butternut has played a couple of really good basketball teams, so for us to come in here and take control of the game and play the way we did was great to see,” Amys said.

The Eagles host Drummond at 7:15 p.m. Friday.
