Respite Center point of pride
The Elks have much to be proud of and this includes the Respite Center in Wisconsin Dells.
Founded in 1992, the Respite Center formed a partnership with Easter Seals. The camp's purpose is to give families and caregivers a much-needed rest from those who have severe mental and physical disabilities, and it serves people from age 3 to adult. It offers one-on-one care, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Elks provide the buildings and the equipment for the camp.
The main building has counselors, one-on-one. The center also has a nurses' building, six counselor buildings, a recreation building and a large dining area. Outside equipment is available for playing and every June there is an Elks cleanup day. The Elks also rake, weed and plant flowers, and all Elks are invited to an annual Elks day to see how their money is being spent.
