Superior will celebrate heroes after disaster
The Superior community invited to public 'Thank You.'
The public is invited to attend a public event to recognize those who banded together in response to the Husky Energy fire and evacuation.
Husky Emergency Response Team, Red Cross employees, Superior bus drivers, school teachers and assistants, police officers and firefighters are recognized for their service, sacrifice, and commitment to Superior and its residents at 5:30 p.m. today at Wessman Arena at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
The one-hour program includes Mayor Jim Paine, Fire Chief Steve Panger, Police Chief Nicholas Alexander and Superintendent Janna Stevens addressing the audience. There will be time after to personally thank those who kept Superior safe.
"It seems fitting to hold a community thank you to all who made sacrifices last week on International Firefighters' Day, May 4," Paine said. "Firefighters from Superior and the local area exemplified dedication, commitment and sacrifice last week. We are indebted to their dedication to our community."
