Grant opportunities for Ashland, Bayfield
Two funds serving the Ashland and Bayfield areas seek nonprofit groups and government agencies with project ideas to apply for grants with upcoming deadlines. '
The Apostle Islands Area Community Fund, which serves Bayfield, Red Cliff and Madeline Island, offers grants of up to $5,000. The Chequamegon Bay Area Community Fund, which serves Ashland, Washburn and Bad River, is offering grants up to $2,500.
The first step in seeking a grant from either fund is submitting a letter of intent to apply, which briefly outlines the project idea and allows fund officials to review the proposal. Letters are due by 5 p.m. Feb. 15 and can be submitted to dsacommunityfoundation.com, the website of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation. Groups whose letters receive approval can then formally apply for a grant by 5 p.m. March 1, also through the website.
To be eligible to apply, groups must be charitable organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or classified under Section 170(c)(1) of the code, and also be located in or provide services to the areas covered by the funds.
